Yousaf Shahbaz, Architect/Interior designer

As an architect, what’s your favorite building in NYC?

It would probably be the Chrysler building because I’m obsessed with art deco. But, there’s so much great architecture in New York, it’s hard to pick one.

What are some projects you’ve worked on in the past?

I’m actually based back in Pakistan, and I primarily do residential.

How do you collaborate on ideas with the clients that you work for?

I prefer to do a very “process” oriented approach where it’s kind of like what the space wants to become. I just go with what the client has in mind and then refine it. Sometimes it’s a process of elimination. So you start with a hundred things and then you’re left with five.

How would you sum up your approach to interior design?

My personal style I’d say is very eclectic. Very layered and process oriented.
